There is so much to see and do in Rotorua, one of the most popular visitor desinations in New Zealand.

At Springwaters Lodge Bed & Breakfast in Hamurana is just 18 kms from the city centre. We are close enough to be a base for guests wanting to see the sights and activities the town is famous for, while also looking for a quiet night's sleep (with no sulphur smell) in a rural environment.

Right on your doorstep

  • Pleasant easy lakefront walk just across the road.
  • Walk up to Hamurana Springs, the deepest natural spring in the North Island of New Zealand.
  • Bird watch at Hamurana Springs wildlife park, you will see ducks, scaup, geese and black swans.
  • Play golf at the 9-hole golf course next to the Hamurana Springs.

Trout Fishing

Come and fish for Rainbow and Brown trout! Just 300 meters walk along the lake front will take you to the Hamurana Stream, fed by the Hamurana Spring where the fishing is excellent and year-round.

Around the lake to the west are more wonderful streams - Awahou, Waiteti, Ngongotaha and to the east, the Ohau Channel - all just waiting for you to cast your line.

Nadia Whyte with her prize-winning trout from the Rotary Tag Trout Tournament.
Professional fly fishing guides can be arranged, they will take you to remote pristine streams where the policy is "catch and release" and you will have the time of your life.  Year round, trolling and harling in Lake Rotorua can also be arranged at a modest price. Catch a fish, bring it home and Katherine will be happy to cook and serve it for you.

Hamurana Springs Reserve

Hamurana is famous for its beautiful crystal clear fresh water springs, but it is also a very popular place for picnics, tree-lovers and bird watchers.

An easy walking track through native flora and forna and a Redwood stand, is suitable for all levels of fitness and leads to the deepest natural spring in the North Island.

The closest accommodation to Hamurana Springs Reserve, At Springwaters Lodge B&B is only a 300m lakefront walk from this beautiful sanctuary.
The Hamurana Springs wildlife sanctuary  is also home to many species of birds including black teal, scaup, herons and the endangered dabchick so is ideal for bird watching.
